YAGA is the fastest-growing marketplace for selling & buying secondhand fashion in South Africa and Estonia.
With over 1 million users, more than 100k monthly transactions, and more than 3 million items, we have experienced 2.5x growth since our latest fundraising round in 2022.
We believe that the future of shopping is secondhand. Our mission is to make the fashion industry more sustainable by providing a safe and convenient person-to-person online platform for selling and buying secondhand fashion.
Our focus is on emerging markets, starting with South Africa, as we are committed to making fashion consumption sustainable globally. Our ambition is to expand to Kenya, Nigeria, and beyond from our South African base.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities
Accounting Operations & ERP
- Own the full monthly close process across all Yaga entities (EE, SA, KE, and new markets), providing all required inputs to external accountants in each location and ensuring deadlines are met
- Audit the integrity and accuracy of the final monthly financial statements produced by external accountants, performing reconciliation tasks to validate completeness and correctness
- Prepare processes to report Consolidated financial statements under IFRS (intercompany eliminations, foreign currency translation, etc.)
- Manage and maintain the ERP and accounting systems as the primary back-end owner: data integrity, chart of accounts, system configuration, and ongoing optimization
- Review, approve, and ensure timely payment of supplier invoices across all entities
- Oversee customer payout processes; verifying accuracy and monitoring for fraud risk
Controlling & FP&A Business Partnering
- Prepare monthly management accounts (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow) and internal reporting packs, ensuring data quality and timeliness
- Maintain and evolve the internal reporting tool; ensuring it reliably reflects the financial reality of the business
- Perform detailed budget vs. actuals analysis, identifying and explaining key variances and the drivers behind them to support the VP of Finance’s strategic decisions
- Provide the financial inputs and driver analysis needed to assess whether a re-forecast is warranted and what its key assumptions should be
- Lead the closing controlling review; the structured checkpoint that ensures numbers are accurate and trustworthy before they are shared with the rest of the team or leadership
- Support quarterly forecast cycles and annual financial reporting, including full audit preparation
Audit & Tax
- Manage the annual audit process end-to-end: auditor relationship, document preparation, timeline, and follow-through
- Ensure tax filings are accurate and on time across all jurisdictions, coordinating with local legal and tax advisors
- Handle required regulatory reporting (e.g. ECB, central bank submissions)
Payroll & HC Support
- Coordinate payroll data flow between the Operations Lead (HR) and external payroll providers across all entities
- Verify the accuracy of payroll inputs and employee cost records before processing
- Maintain headcount cost tracking and support the VP of Finance in HC budget planning
Process Automation & Documentation
- Proactively identify manual or error-prone processes on the inputs and closing sides and lead their automation; reducing risk while freeing up time for higher-value analysis
- Use AI tools as a daily collaborator for reconciliations, report drafting, variance analysis, and process documentation
- Own and maintain the internal Finance wiki (Confluence) so processes are documented, clear, and accessible to the whole team
