Job Description

Laboratory Equipment Engineer applies his/her practical knowledge of metrology to calibrate measuring instruments, test equipment, perform equipment qualification activities and analyze the equipment performance. He/she ensures that the evaluated equipment meets requirements for precision, performance, and accuracy. He/she performs regular maintenance on equipment to ensure that they are performing according to specification. He/she creates and maintains instrument operating procedures and safety procedures. He/she reports about the work and advises on technical matters concerning measuring instruments.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Perform qualifications and calibrations of laboratory equipment. Create the necessary calibration and qualification reports.
  • Perform regular maintenance on laboratory equipment.
  • Coordinate the use of external service providers for instrument maintenance and qualification.
  • Maintain the calibration and servicing equipment used for instrument qualification and maintenance.
  • Create URS (user requirements and specifications) for laboratory equipment. Create and/or review Qualification documentation and its applicability to URS prior to installation of any new equipment.
  • Create and maintain safety procedures and standard operating procedures for laboratory equipment.
  • Create and maintain instrument qualification and maintenance procedures.
  • Confer with the QA manager and Laboratory manager to assess instrument status and ensure that all required pieces of equipment are in working order.
  • Assist the QA and Laboratory Manager in deviation and OOS/OOT investigations that involve possible instrument malfunction.
  • Maintain documentation of all activities related to laboratory instruments.
  • Source new equipment and supplies when necessary.

Requirements

Expected Skills and Experience: 

  • Experience working on analytical laboratory equipment.
  • Experience in metrology and/or calibration/certification
  • Mechanical engineering background experience is an advantage.
