Job Description

At Twilio, we’re shaping the future of communications, all from the comfort of our homes. We deliver innovative solutions to hundreds of thousands of businesses and empower millions of developers worldwide to craft personalized customer experiences.

Our dedication to remote-first work, and strong culture of connection and global inclusion means that no matter your location, you’re part of a vibrant team with diverse experiences making a global impact each day. As we continue to revolutionize how the world interacts, we’re acquiring new skills and experiences that make work feel truly rewarding. Your career at Twilio is in your hands. We use Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies to maintain an efficient, fair and transparent hiring process. Our hiring process is never completely automated, and uses AI in conjunction with our recruiting professionals.

Join the team as Twilio’s next Senior Principal Product Manager (P6).

Twilio is looking for a Senior Principal, Product Management, to help deliver on our strategic vision for the Developer Platform. In this role, you will be responsible for the foundational services, APIs, and developer infrastructure that power our product ecosystem. You will define and drive the roadmap that enables internal teams and partners to innovate and scale with confidence.

A defining challenge for this role is treating the platform as a product. Today, much of the support that internal teams receive from platform engineering is free-form and human-mediated — Slack threads and ad-hoc requests that pull senior engineers into “shadow operations.” Industry research (DORA, CNCF, Team Topologies, and leading platform teams at Spotify, Netflix, and Google) is unambiguous that the path out of this runs through a product-managed platform: golden paths, a discoverable developer portal, self-service tooling, and high-quality documentation treated as a first-class deliverable. You will own that transformation — shifting the platform from reactive support toward proactive, self-service-first experiences that measurably reduce cognitive load and support burden while accelerating every internal team that builds Twilio products.

As a strategic leader, you will collaborate closely with other product leaders, engineering, architecture and design to deliver robust, scalable, and forward-looking developer platform capabilities. You will establish a product vision and strategy to define the future of our developer tooling, deployment systems, developer experience, observability requirements, and operational capabilities. You will be the steward for evangelizing our developer platform capabilities and narrative and driving roadmap prioritization across a scalable cloud platform.

Key Areas include:

  • Developer experience and productivity
  • Platform reliability, scalability, and trust
  • Infrastructure modernization
  • Deployment and operational tooling
  • Cross-product platform standardization
  • Observability across the platform
  • Documentation and self-service as a product (golden paths, developer portal, knowledge base)
  • Evangelization of our roadmap and platform capabilities

In this role, you’ll:

  • Roadmap Ownership: Define, build and execute a comprehensive platform product roadmap that supports both internal teams and external customers.
  • Platform as a Product: Treat the developer platform like a public-facing product — establishing golden paths, a developer portal/service catalog, and documentation-as-code so that self-service, not tickets, becomes the default support model.
  • Cross-functional Partnership: Collaborate with Engineering, Architecture, Security, Legal, and other Product teams to ensure the platform is meeting customer needs and is scalable, secure, and extensible.
  • Developer Experience: Champion an outstanding developer experience by driving improvements in APIs, SDKs, documentation, sandbox environments, and tools.
  • Platform Governance: Establish frameworks and standards for platform capabilities, data management, service orchestration, and integrations. Drive platform reliability, scalability, and operational excellence.
  • Customer focus: Deeply understand customer needs and advocate for customer-centric product & engineering practices, using developer interviews and usage data to translate requests into root causes.
  • Technical Depth: Translate customer requirements into scalable, secure and extensible platform specifications.
  • Performance Measurement: Define KPIs and success metrics for platform usage, reliability, scalability, and adoption — including self-service adoption rate, support ticket deflection, onboarding time, and documentation satisfaction.
  • Stakeholder Alignment: Act as the voice of the Twilio platform across the organization (internal development platform, deployment systems, developer experience and tooling, observability, etc.), ensuring stakeholder needs are well understood and incorporated into the product planning process.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of product management experience, with at least 4 years leading platform or infrastructure-focused product teams.
  • Proven experience developing and managing platform products such as APIs, developer tools, identity/auth, data services, or cloud-native infrastructure.
  • Lead and execute ambitious platform roadmap with measurable outcomes.
  • Strong technical acumen and ability to engage deeply with engineering and architecture teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive complex, cross-functional initiatives in fast-paced environments.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and organizational skills.
  • Track record of building and mentoring high-performing product teams.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field; MBA or advanced degree a plus.

Nice to have

  • Experience working on multi-tenant SaaS and cloud platforms.
  • Experience treating an internal platform as a product — golden paths/paved roads, developer portals (Backstage, Port, Cortex), docs-as-code, and self-service tooling.
  • Familiarity with Observability frameworks (metrics, logs, traces) and DORA/SPACE developer-productivity measurement.
  • While not always coding, a strong technical background is necessary to discuss architecture and integrate AI or other advanced technologies.
  • Familiarity with microservices architecture, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, and DevOps practices.
  • Passion for building scalable platforms that enable rapid product innovation.

  • Working at Twilio offers many benefits, including competitive pay, generous time off, ample parental and wellness leave, healthcare, a retirement savings program, and much more. Offerings vary by location.

  • All roles are generally eligible for the following benefits: health care insurance, 401(k) retirement account, paid sick time, paid personal time off, paid parental leave.
