StarSystem is a concept developed by John Casablancas, Founder of the Elite Agency network, and his longtime friend and associate, Jeremie Roux, a balanced left/right brain entrepreneur who holds a Master’s Degree in Computer Science from Stanford University and has worked in such varied worlds as the Silicon Valley technology start-ups and the modeling/photography industry.
John Casablancas, after twenty-five years leading the agency that dominated the modeling industry worldwide and represented 80% of the Supermodels, sold his company in 2000 and retired in Key Biscayne, Florida, and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, with his wife Aline and their five children. In recent years, however, he has been collaborating as an advisor and counselor to a variety of agency owners and investors, giving him an opportunity to reinforce his links with the business.

In 2007, Casablancas did some consulting work for international companies, and this led to an association with a new, exciting, upcoming Italian agency: Joy Model Management Milano. Casablancas realized that the real “powerbase” of a modeling agency comes from its ability to discover new models and launching their careers. It is precisely his ability in this area that made his agencies Number One in the world for a quarter century.

Inspired by the famed “Star System” from the Hollywood Studios in the 30’s and 40’s to catapult new actors and actresses to stardom, Casablancas created StarSystem, with bases in Paris, Milano and Geneva, and with newly opened offices in Kiev and Warsaw. In Sao Paulo, StarSystem joined forces with Liliana Gomes, owner of the Viva agency there, and transformed this new venture into Joy Model Management Sao Paulo. StarSystem opened ten scouting units in different countries by the end of 2009, and hopes to have opened twenty by the end of 2010.

Casablancas states, “The principles on which this project is based are simple: We will offer the best support to our partners in each of the countries where we open an office, utilizing strong contracts with the models we discover...we will provide the best service to the young women whose careers we launch, ensuring that they are prepared not only physically and psychologically for their journey into international modeling, but also guiding them in the important decisions they need to make at the beginning of their careers and giving them the practical information as to what to expect....and we will introduce our beautiful new faces and give the best service to the top agencies and best managers in the major markets like Paris, New York, London and Milano, as well as in other important markets, such as Germany, Spain or countries in the Far East”. He adds, “I will devote all of my time to identifying, amongst the hundreds of new faces that our scouts will discover, those who have that very special X-factor that can make them Superstars. It will be challenging and fun to work with all these great agents and managers who were once my competitors!”.

Jeremie Roux befriended John Casablancas through his uncle Xavier Moreau, photographic agent who represented some of the greatest artists of the 20th Century, among which the famous Helmut Newton and acclaimed Bettina Rheims. At a very young age, Roux had the privilege of observing some of the world’s most beautiful women being photographed in Paris studios and on exotic locations by his uncle’s clients. Although initially he set out for a career in technology, Roux continued to draw upon his early life experiences and developed his own creative talents in areas like imaging and graphic arts... even becoming an avid photographer and at one point considered it as a professional career option.

When John Casablancas approached Jeremie Roux about the StarSystem project, he did not hesitate and resigned from his executive responsibilities as a Director of Business Development for the leading executive search firm in the creative world Janou Pakter to become the architect of the StarSystem project and, from Paris, the coordinator of StarSystem’s scouting network.

As StarSystem's President Jeremie Roux states, “I’m looking forward to finding the most creative and dynamic young people from the fashion and modeling business throughout Eastern Europe, Scandinavia, Germany, the Netherlands, Latin America, Canada and Australia; they will become our partners and scouts. John and I are passionate about service, and we will search for those who share our vision and values. With our local associates, we will build a scouting infrastructure in all territories and not only find and identify the most beautiful and talented young women, but really help them to take the right steps at the very beginning of their careers. I have estimated that nearly three quarters of young potential models are discouraged from continuing their careers because of bad experiences and lack of direction at the beginning.”

As Hollywood did with its stars during the Golden Age, StarSystem intends to recreate the time where a model could become a celebrity; our ambition is to bring back the glamour, power and magic of the Supermodel. That was John Casablancas’ signature trademark, and it is StarSystem’s mission.
