DevOps Systems Engineer - KN Website Solutions

Occasional remote work possibility

Job Description

It's more than a job

In this IT role, you will manage, develop, and support the technology infrastructure that powers Kuehne+Nagel’s global systems and operations. This contribution is vital to making both special and ordinary moments in the lives of people a reality. In fact, your work enables our teams to deliver fresh fruit, time-sensitive healthcare products and much more to people all around the world. Working in IT at Kuehne+Nagel contributes to more than we imagine.

KN Website Solutions operates Kuehne+Nagel’s global web presence and digital customer-facing platforms. Following our major relaunch in 2025, we are expanding our cloud maturity and strengthening our AWS-based architecture.

To support this growth, we are looking for a DevOps Systems Engineer with strong expertise in AWS, CI/CD, automation, and observability. In this role, you will take ownership of our platform operations and ensure a reliable, secure, and scalable website infrastructure.

This is a key role where you will safeguard production readiness, lead cloud modernization efforts, and act as the technical link between development teams and infrastructure stakeholders.

How you create impact

  • Lead AWS cloud and modernization efforts, including workload assessments, migration execution, ECS/Fargate deployments, and alignment with KN’s cloud governance model.
  • Design, operate, and optimize AWS infrastructure such as networking, ECS clusters, load balancers, IAM structures, secrets management, and S3-based storage patterns.
  • Set up and maintain AWS accounts and organizational guardrails, including permission boundaries, roles, policies, and secure project onboarding.
  • Develop, maintain, and evolve CI/CD pipelines (GitLab, Jenkins) supporting automated testing, deployment strategies, blue/green rollouts, and environment promotion flows.
  • Create and maintain system architecture documentation, including component diagrams and environment topology, ensuring clarity for developers and stakeholders.
  • Build and maintain InfrastructureAsCode automation using Crossplane, Terraform, or CloudFormation (infrastructure provisioning, ECS services, networking, and databases).
  • Implement and enhance observability using Grafana Loki, Mimir, GOP, CloudWatch, and distributed tracing—ensuring actionable monitoring and alerting for all services.
  • Ensure operational excellence by managing PostgreSQL administration tasks, troubleshooting incidents, optimizing performance, and keeping production stable 24/7.

Requirements

  • Experience: 3–5 years in a similar role (DevOps Engineer, SRE, Platform Engineer) with hands-on experience in at least one major cloud provider (preferably AWS).
  • Technical Skills: Strong Linux administration background, CI/CD exposure (ideally GitLab, Jenkins), and IaC expertise (Terraform, CloudFormation, AWS CDK).
  • Scripting: Proficiency in Python, Bash, or PowerShell.
  • Containerization & Orchestration: Solid experience with tools like Docker and orchestration platforms such as EKS or Kubernetes.
  • Monitoring & Observability: Strong knowledge of Grafana, Loki, Mimir, OpenTelemetry, and CloudWatch.
  • Database Operations: Familiarity with PostgreSQL basics via pgAdmin and automated DB lifecycle tasks.
  • Solution-Oriented Mindset: Ability to design reusable, scalable solutions and experience working across hybrid cloud and on-premises environments.
  • Collaboration & Communication: Excited to work in international teams with good English skills (spoken and written).

Company offers

  • The opportunity to shape KN’s global digital platform landscape and drive state-of-the-art cloud transformation initiatives.
  • A highly impactful role at the intersection of development, architecture, and infrastructure.
  • A modern tech environment with a strong focus on cloud maturity, automation, and innovation.
  • A collaborative international team, openness to new ideas, and room to implement forward-thinking engineering practices.
  • Professional growth through complex, large-scale AWS environments and continuous learning opportunities
