1. Purpose of the post The Information Management and Technology Department (IMT) is responsible for developing, delivering and maintaining information management and communication technology capabilities that ensure enhanced criminal information exchange between Member States. The successful candidate will work as part of the Servers and Data Centre Engineering and Support team within the IMT infrastructure and Operations unit (IMT1), in charge of IT engineering and support activities for the Europol data centre and server-side computing and storage infrastructure.
2.Tasks and Responsibilities The successful applicant will act as the most senior database administrator for the organisation. In the first place he/she will perform, directly or by supervising the work of more junior staff, the execution of the standard engineering and operational tasks related to database management. Furthermore, he/she will participate to the development of new applications, via data modelling, database design, and implementation of new databases, including the design and writing of stored procedures. Besides database administration tasks, the successful applicant will also be required to perform and supervise engineering and operational activities within the broader scope of the Server and Data Centre team, which includes the support of all server-side computing facilities: data centre facilities, server hardware, storage area network, operating systems, middleware, and deployed application software. More specifically, the successful applicant, under the supervision of the First Officer managing the Servers and Data Centre Engineering and Operations team, will have the following main tasks and responsibilities: ·Contribute to the daily, weekly, monthly and yearly management activities on the deployed databases such as monitoring, maintenance, configuration management, incidents and problems resolution; ·Plan and execute the installation of new databases in the production environment; ·Be involved in the operations for the backup and restoration of data; ·Design, implement and maintain operational procedures for production databases; ·Produce accurate technical documentation as required; ·Interface with the application maintenance teams for 3rd level escalation and application-level troubleshooting and problem resolution; ·Lead or supervise projects or part of projects for the modification of the configuration , addition or replacement of hardware and software; ·In collaboration with other teams as appropriate, execute feasibility studies, technical designs, and implement new technology solutions; ·Develop procedures, propose and implement new tools and working practices for the continuous improvement of the efficiency and quality of service; ·Participate in the technical maintenance of the data centre facilities and equipment; ·Participate in on call duty shifts after hours.
3.1 General requirements (article 24 of Staff Regulation) The post holder must: ·be a national of one of the Members States of the European Union and enjoy full rights as a citizen; ·have a good knowledge of at least two official EU languages, including excellent English oral and writing skills; ·have completed a university degree, preferably in information sciences or technical subjects related to computer sciences. The post holder should have: a. Professional experience: Essential: ·A minimum of 8 years of work experience in the IT field; ·A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in database administration; ·Experience with the coordination and supervision of small teams on ICT engineering and operational support tasks. Desirable: ·Work experience in a multi-disciplinary, multi-cultural, and international environment; b. Professional knowledge: Essential: ·Good general knowledge of core data centre technology components; ·Excellent knowledge of all database administration tasks, including database monitoring and capacity planning; ·Excellent knowledge of MS SQL server; ·Good knowledge of T-SQL; ·Good knowledge of backup and restore procedures and technology; ·Logical and physical data modelling; ·Development of stored procedures; ·Good knowledge of MS Windows Server 2000 - 2003; ·Knowledge of web-based application architectures. Desirable: ·Holding relevant Microsoft certification credentials; ·Experience in query tuning; ·Knowledge of SAN technology and clustering; ·Knowledge of other RDBMS, such as Oracle; ·Knowledge of document management systems; ·Knowledge of directory technology (AD, LDAP); ·General knowledge of ITIL, in particular configuration, problem and change management. c. 4. Salary Scale: 6 The basic salary is EUR 5736,61 (tax deductions and social contributions within Europol amount to approximately 8-10%) In addition, when relevant, family allowances can be granted: ·5% of the basic salary – household allowance; ·EUR 284.20 (net) - per dependant child; ·EUR 926,77 (net) – expatriation allowance Additional benefits (annual trip home, education, rent and other allowances, excellent health insurance, etc.)
