Engineering Manager - Carrier Operations

Twilio believes in small teams and Service Oriented Architecture. Twilio consists of hundreds of services owned and operated by teams of 5-8 individuals and deployed on a globally distributed system. We are looking for an Engineering leader to build out a one of those small teams of Software Engineers in Twilio's EU office. You will design, build and operate a series of production services that will accelerate Twilio's growth. About the job: - As a manager of the Carrier Operations EU Team, you will work on delivering services and tooling from DID Porting tools to, Financial reporting, invoice reconciliation and traffic alert systems. - You will receive exposure to the unique set of challenges that come from operating a global network that never stops enabling communications any time of the day or night. Twilio infrastructure is the dial-tone that never fails. - Developing tools and automation is key to everything we do at Twilio. Any task we do more than twice is automated. - You are a process-oriented person. More important than what you do is how you do it. Documentation is key. - You will lead teams through stressful situations and have demonstrated ability to teach sound decision making through the customer lens. - You will be building internal services for multiple global teams and will take requirements from various teams and drive them to completion. - Twilio is a company built by developers for developers. You must not only have the professional expertise to understand your team’s engineering and business challenges, but also the technical acumen to build great software. Responsibilities: - The Engineering Manager role at Twilio is about shipping high-quality products and providing team leadership. - Hire, grow, and mentor a team of talented Software Engineers with various levels of experience. - Partner with the Technical Lead to make long-term architectural decisions about Twilio's internal Operational Tools. - Take personal responsibility as the delivery manager and set clear expectations for Finance, Engineering and Product operations teams. - Own the roadmap for internal operations tools to support the rapid growth of the operational teams.

Requirements

- You have at least two years experience building and managing a team of Software Engineers (5+ developers). - You've managed, led or written code for a backend tools system that allowed a company to operate at scale. - Stellar communication, organization and management skills. - Deep knowledge of agile software development processes and tools like Confluence, Git and Jira. - Solid understanding of continuous integration and deployment practices. - Enthusiasm for working in a high profile, fast-paced startup culture. We ship products on a daily basis, with tight schedules, small teams, and a very large user base. - Hands on. Passionate. Persistent. Creative. You get things done - you are a DOer. Bonus points: - You have experience working in highly-available production environments. - You focus on continuous improvement and can describe the approaches you have taken. - You have experience working with MySQL. - You have architected or written your own Operator/Admin panel. - You understand global voice and SMS statistics. - You have worked in a company with offices around the globe.
